Parents, Guardians, Students and Staff:

With this weather, it comes to no surprise that illnesses are now in full swing! There have been many confirmed cases of influenza, RSV and strep.  Below is a review of some guidelines to ensure the best possible health within our school community.

Hand washing, covering mouth with elbow when sneezing/coughing and proper outerwear is strongly encouraged.  Sharing of food, personal belongings and writing utensils is strongly discouraged.

Students should stay home from school if they have any of the following, but keep in mind some students will need a doctor’s note depending on their attendance situation:

  • An oral temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit (Note: The child’s temperature must remain below 100 degrees Fahrenheit for 24 hours without benefit of use of fever reducing medication before they can return to school).

  • Vomiting - should be free of symptom for 24 hours before returning to school.

  • Diarrhea - should be free of symptom for 24 hours before returning to school.

  • Persistent nasal congestion, reddened eyes, sore throat, cough or headache that disrupt the student’s learning or pose a risk of disease transmission to others.

  • Unexplained skin eruptions or rashes.  When in doubt, consult your child’s doctor.

  • Communicable illnesses in which you have been advised to remain out of school until cleared to return by the county health department or your child’s doctor.

Schools can be an efficient incubator of illness.  Keeping a virus out of our environment is important to the health of our entire school and extended community.  We want to keep everyone as healthy as possible and ask your help in keeping these guidelines in mind.
