DISTRICT 205 SCHOOL CLOSING INFORMATION
From Superintendent Ralph Grimm

As we have seen signs of winter the last couple of weekends, I thought it would be good to put
out a few details regarding school closing due to weather related issues. This notice will serve as a reminder to all parents to please begin to make childcare arrangements on those days the weather precludes us from having school. Please keep in mind the following:

  • I want to have school every day possible as long as it is safe to bring students and staff to our buildings. Once we get them here, it is difficult to dismiss school early. If our students are in school, I know they are safe, warm and can be fed if need be.

  • It is always my hope to be able to make the call about whether or not to have school by 6 am on any morning that the weather is questionable. When possible and practical, the decision will be made the evening before.

  • The following media outlets will be contacted to assist in getting our the school closing information:

         WHBF – Channel 4   KWQC – Channel 6  WQAD – Channel 8
  KLJB - Channel 18  WHOI – Channel 19  WEEK – Channel 25
WMBD – Channel 31  WRAM AM 1330  WAAG FM 95
WGIL AM 1400  WLSR FM 92.7  WAIK AM 1590

  • When a decision is made to cancel school, I will notify the Assistant Superintendent, Mrs. Hamm, and the Transportation Director, Mrs. Earp. Mrs. Hamm will create and send out a SkyLert message, contact various media outlets (noted above), and see that the message is posted to the District Facebook page and Twitter feed, in that order. We are not using a district wide phone tree this year.

  • In the event that school is cancelled for an entire day, our policy will be that extracurricular events will be cancelled at the elementary and middle school level. High school activities may be held but it will be a decision that is made at that time based on current weather conditions.

  • If we start the school day and then decide to let out early due to weather conditions, there will be no extracurricular activities allowed on that day.

  • On days the snow route is in effect, an announcement will be made on the Galesburg Radio Stations beginning at 6 a.m.

Let’s hope that we don’t have to put into practice any of the things mentioned above.

Sincerely,
Ralph Grimm
Superintendent
