Four Galesburg District 205 parents and the EL Parent Liaison participated in the Statewide Summit for Bilingual Parents held in Oak Brook on Saturday, May 11th.  Sponsored by the Illinois Board of Education Division of English Learners, the annual conference is held annually for members of Bilingual Parent Advisory Councils and parents of English Learners. Parents attended a number of conference sessions including an opening presentation by Illinois State Superintendent of Education, Dr. Carmen Ayala.

The summit was attended by over 1,200 multilingual parents representing over 110 school districts from around the state and offered sessions on school and family engagement, immigration and community issues, parent advisory committee guidance and preparing students for college and careers.  In addition, District 205 parents took networking opportunities to engage with parents from other school districts by exchanging ideas, common challenges, and resources.
