Ignacio, a bright Kindergarten student from Steele Elementary, made his dreams come true at the annual Family Game Night silent auction when he won the chance to be the CUSD #205 Superintendent for the afternoon.
On Friday, April 4th, he stepped into his new role with enthusiasm and big ideas! With a heart full of ambition and a curious mind, Ignacio experienced firsthand what it’s like to lead and make important decisions for his school community.
He started the afternoon by checking the current road conditions. Once he believed it was safe for buses and students, he proceeded to Galesburg Junior Senior High School, where he met with staff, walked through classrooms, and then had a very important meeting with the principal, Mr. Ewing, and the Athletic Director, Mr. Young.
Mr. Young approached the junior Superintendent with a request for a wage increase in his next contract, hoping to reflect his contributions and dedication. Unfortunately, the negotiation did not go as planned, as the request was promptly declined. Watch the video by clicking here.
Next up, he headed over to Bright Futures for some inspiring moments and then made his way to Central Office. The highlight was meeting with Mr. Davis, the food service director, to review and approve next week’s menu items.
The final visit for the afternoon was at King Elementary School. He visited classrooms and met with the principal, Mrs. Hawkins, to see how things were going in the building and what the students were doing in STEM class.
It was a day filled with fun and learning as he engaged with students and staff alike.
