Karyna Weingart, director, provides more information about what those in attendance can expect at the performance,
"When I read Leaving Iowa for the first time, I was invested in the father and son relationship between Don and his dad. Don reminisces on this “disaster” of a family vacation that did not go as planned. With the comedic hiccups along the way, Don has fond memories of his father. Don’s memories of his Dad I found relatable.
As someone who has a Dad still alive, I found myself remembering the family vacations I had in the past. I remembered going to historical sites and rural areas throughout the Midwest where everything was fascinating. I also thought about the vacations that were photographed of my parent’s family vacations. Vacations tended to be a big part of my family; their memories often brought us closer together despite the chaos that would ensue from being away from home.
My hope as a director is that the audience remembers fond memories of vacations with their families when they were younger, even if the vacation was a bit chaotic at the time."
We hope you can join us for the GHS production of, "Leaving Iowa".
