It was a beautiful morning to celebrate the new Fit America equipment at Silas Willard Elementary today!
OSF Healthcare Pediatric Wellness Specialist, Hannah Landis, partnered with Project Fit America to bring the "fit pit equipment" to Silas for students to use during Physical Education class. Hannah said the program's main focus is to bring fitness into education. The curriculum places a strong emphasis on increasing each student's confidence and empowering them to make healthy behavior decisions.
Funding for this project was made possible by the OSF Healthcare St. Mary Medical Center: Kleine Pediatric Wellness Center. The vision of the center is to provide opportunities for all children and families to live healthy and be well.
When the equipment was delivered over the summer, Hannah reached out to Tom Simkins to lead a group of community volunteers to install the equipment safely for students to start enjoying during the 2022-2023 school year.
We are thankful for the numerous volunteers and community partners who came together to make this possible for students now and for the years to come.
