During the weeks of August 21st and August 28th, GJSHS students will take fall benchmark assessments in reading (grades 7-12), math (grades 7-12), and science (grades 7-8). These assessment tools are used three times a year to monitor student progress.
The assessments are computer-based and adjust to each child’s ability level. This individualizes every testing experience. Each testing session lasts approximately an hour. It is not a timed test so it varies for each student.
The assessments are not timed and teachers will allow sufficient time to complete the tests. The general timeline for the assessments are as follows:
Junior High
Reading - Monday, August 21st - Tuesday, August 22nd
Science - Thursday, August 24th - Friday, August 25th
Math - Monday, August 28th - Wednesday, August 30th
High School
Reading - Monday, August 21st - Tuesday, August 22nd
Math - Thursday, August 24th - Friday, August 25th
Teachers continuously use classroom assessments and tools to dig deeper with student learning and inform instructional plans. Benchmark tests provide teachers an opportunity to check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. The benchmark reports also provide typical growth data for students who are in the same grade, subject and have the same starting performance level. It also provides parents/guardians a snapshot of student growth over time. It is important to know the benchmark assessment scores are just one data point about student learning.
Student(s) will need to bring their fully charged chromebook and charger to school to complete the assessments.
