Galesburg, IL/Press/January 8, 2020 – Leeanne Scherpe, Teacher with Steele Elementary School was selected for inclusion into the Top Educators of America 2020 by The Who’s Who Directories.

Leeanne Scherpe is currently an Outreach teacher at Steele Elementary School. She has taught in the Galesburg School District for 14 years. She is also the Head Varsity Tennis Coach (Boys and Girls) for the Galesburg High School. Mrs. Scherpe is passionate about teaching and helping her students achieve their dreams. Students  show their creativity in poetry rap battles, learning to become future history makers like scientists and math geniuses. She looks at students individually and handles all students like if they were her own being their cheerleader and champion. As one student is quoted as saying, “Mrs. Scherpe helps students with school items or a give them a snack in the middle of the day, they know they can come see her and she will help them.  Mrs. Scherpe is also known to take students to and from school if they happen to miss the bus or their parents car breaks down. Mrs. Scherpe helps students after school during tutoring. I have never met another teacher like Mrs. Scherpe who can take an extremely difficult child who is having a bad day turn around that child’s attitude and make them want learn. She is patient and kind.”

Mrs. Scherpe received a Master in Reading and Literacy, majoring as a Reading Specialist at Benedictine University and a Bachelor of Science majoring in Elementary Education and Social Studies from Bradley University. She is Certified in Reading Recovery, Gifted Education Seminar and Mentorship 101. Mrs. Scherpe is a member of the Galesburg Education Association, National Education Association and the Illinois Education Association.

Mrs. Scherpe is involved in many committee activities including the Readermania Committee and District Accomplishments including Classroom Manager Presenter at Teacher’s Institute, Led Technology Training for Teachers, Math Websites Training for Teachers to Utilize in their classrooms and Google Classroom training for Teachers to utilize in their classrooms. She is a presenter on Language Arts Curriculum Committee Work, Cooperating Teacher for Student Teachers and Novice Teachers and Mentor Teacher for first and second year teachers.
